YoYo Games have donated a number of licenses for GameMaker 8.1 to Education Scotland, as part of further encouraging game design and the use of digital resources in schools.
The government agency today revealed in a blog post they intend to make the free licenses available to teachers and educators. Those interested can make a bid for up to 30 copies. The closing date is the 5th of October this year.
“Our aim is to make these available to educators but to encourage them to join a collaborative and collegiate community within Glow so that we can continue to grow a culture for teachers and learners of creation and not just consumption of digital assets.”
The partnership with YoYo Games is one in a number of projects Education Scotland has undertaken to promote digital technologies. The organization has been recently “spreading the practice of computer game design” to students in Scotland via the national intranet system it manages named “Glow”.
