A foolish GMC user has been caught decompiling a Sound Recorder application hosted on YoYo Games. ev149 posted in the Community section of the official Game Maker forum with a problem he had experienced with Game Maker ”when I try to open a sprite, object, or script, no buttons show up” providing a screenshot to demonstrate the issue.

As well as winning the award for having the most Game Maker extensions installed he also wins the prize for the worst Paint.NET or Photoshop blurring attempt leaving all items on the start bar identifiably but neglecting to blur the decompiled game.

Click to Enlarge

kake_fisk, creator of the application which was decompiled, replied 5 posts later with “Have you decompiled my SoundRecorder application??? I have the exact same sprites and resources as your screenie even the exact same name.” Instead of admitting his guilt ev149 responded with the following:

“No. However, I saw your app and wanted to create something similar, so I took a screenshot of your app and used your sprites as placeholders. I didn’t know what to name it, so I borrowed your name for the file until I could think of a new one. I don’t even know where to find the decompiler, and in no way support it, since I would not want anyone doing something like that to one of my games. I’m very sorry if this coincidence alarmed you.”

The fail moment came when kake_fisk saw that some of the sprites he created that were shown in the posted screenshot were not actually used in his application. ”I don’t think I ever show the 4 upper sprites ingame“, these sprites were included in the program but were not shown during all operation possibilities and were present in ev149‘s project.

…with their newest issue. Featuring a new layout and some decent writing.

But wait, hold your horses – do you think that our good friend Nate is responsible for this? The explanation to this seemingly miraculous event is simple: he had outside help from somebody insane enough to help him.

So, here’s some bits from the stuff HCG wrote, without further ado:

As you all may know, I am currently learning Java and C++. This may be a surprise to you all but C++ and Java’s syntax closely resembles the syntax for GML.

Oh my god!

I am sick and tired of new games on YoYo and the GMC. Why may you ask? Well I meant, not all of them. A good amount of them. There are many users posting games that have been called: “Unnamed Platformer,” “Unnamed RPG”, “Unnamed TDS”. Why make a game, without a name? How about you get a name for the game before the release?

I still don’t know what “Adbarlian Castles” means…

When you call a game Unnamed, it makes it seem like its an example/tutorial edit.

Your games have names – and they still seem like example/tutorial edits!

Wowza! There are now 2 interview gm sites. I recall last issue, we spoke of the 1st one.

In a very positive light indeed.

Review for “Coredase” – if I can read this horrible font right:

Finally, a game that strays away from all the violence and harmful nature.

Sounds like a decent review so far…

…I gave this game an overall rating of 6 stars not only because he’s my friend, but because this game is truly a masterpiece.

Once again, the Prodigy Game Magazine presents unbiased opinions (as if reviewing their own games wasn’t enough). Hey – it’s what they he promised us with issue 1:

“We are not politically correct at all. We give out intense news, previews, and reviews.”

Intense, indeed!

The rest of the magazine is the usual stuff: interview, another review… a few typos there and there. Somewhat readable.

The world is coming to an end.

FUN FACT: Did you know that its almost been a year since the Nazi-zine post?’

It’s the moment we’ve all been waiting for… the PGM is back.

We here at the ProdigyGM would like to wish you all a Merry Christmas. Christmas is the time to show love, because God showed love to us by bringing him his son Jesus Christ. Now that was the good news, here is the bad news. We will not be providing a January 2008 issue. Issue #3′s planned release date is in February or March 2009. We are strong believers that January of 2009 would not be a very good month for online game magazines.

I think that’s a bit obvious, but with the Prodigy Game Magazine, mistakes like this are just natural. Ironically, the second issue of Gnazine actually had a similar goof:

I want to see who can make the best screen saver before January 15, 2007!

But what’s next? Awesomeness Watch, that is! Awesome GMC members get their very own section in the PGM (magazine): and this time, it’s Team[Logo]. Free logos for people, apparently:

They do it in a timely manner, but after reading this issue, it may take a bit longer, lmao!

Har har har, lmao!

They created the new logo that we are using on our site and in this magazine.

While it’s true that the logo (which looks decent) is in their website, I can’t seem to find it anywhere in the magazine. But that put aside, what do we have next?

FLAME WAR!

Today’s victim is Tdub. Tdub is one of the biggest noobs ever! His games are meant to be “complex” but they are just horribly made. If he thinks he is jigsaw, he is not. This noob has called so many people noobs they there needs to be a lower category for a noob. Shame on you Tdub! Shame on you!

Wow, we’re already off to a great start.

It would be best if you disconnected your internet, so no one would know you exist. I am not just playing this time, I am dead serious! If I was the president of the United States, I would probaly [sic] use executive powers to ban you from all social networks, chatrooms, and forums.

I’m sure a lot of people think the same about you, Nate.

Interview Game Makers is a joke site. Just because of that site, I will not be interviewing anyone in this magazine.

Maybe that’s a good thing.

The competitions gives out money, but a game that is sold commercially is probably better. I’m sorry for getting you alls hopes up, but Super Mario V. Sega will most likely not be on this list. All fangames are illegal, so watch it. If you did not know that, then disreguard [sic] this update, because you are too nooby to even be considered. Thanks.

What??

Next, we have a preview of Crime Life 3, a GTA clone. I think you know what it’s made in.

I wish we could play as the police, because shooting the cops seems very unpatriotic.

I’m sure Nate will like the real Grand Theft Auto.

Sakisa [the game's creator] is even working on a railroad system, hopefully we can get killed by the train, lol.

lol

The game is pretty funny. Killing innocent civilians is hilarious…

So it’s OK to kill innocent civilians, but not cops? You have a twisted mind, Nate.

But now:

It’s the PGM 2009 AWARDS.

…Whatever.

At this point, I have to tell you about this awesome platform game. George W. Bush: Quest for Oil and Glory.

Thats [sic] not Change! Thats [sic] more The Same!

Welcome to one of our new sections. This section was inspired by Joe Biden’s speech during the 2008 Presidential election. This section is essentially to show GM Games that resemble tutorial edits, other GM Games, and low amount of features. We know this may sound rude, but the truth must be told. This is a mini-review for games that do not show change.

I think you’ve already guessed – the game I mentioned above is the poor target in this section. Basically, here’s what they think is wrong with it:

Resembles a Super Mario example
You know, it’s a platformer game. That’s the point.

Shows the corrupt media.
…

And then there’s “stolen music from Green Day” and “music does not loop”. Yeah, those are real problems with it.

By now, I’m wondering when this section is going to feature some ProdigyGM games. I think they’d be great examples for the section, no?

OFFENSIVE CODING (WITH NOOBWARE)

Here is another section, kinda like flamewar, but its codes that are meant to offend people, yeah, we don’t care. Check out the two codings:

I’m not sure if we care either.

1.
if (Adam+Eve) {
human+=1;
}
if (Alice+Eve)
{
hot=true;
}
if (Adam+Steve)
{
human+=0;
game_end();
score-=score;
health-=health/4;
exit;
}
2.
if rod_blago=il_governor
{
corruption=true
}
3.
if snowing=true
{
ditch_school=true;
grades-=letter;
}

I actually had to indent these snippets of “code” myself. Why did I even bother?

This issue will be seen as the most offensive issue, but we don’t care. lol . Also, Merry Christmas. We will be on a long vacation, so you will have to wait a while for the next issue.

We don’t care either, lol

Don’t worry, we’ll be waiting patiently.

Lately, there’s been some talk about an Xbox Live Marketplace/Steam/etc. like “game marketplace” for Game Maker games – there have been a few attempts, including the now dead PCGamesNow.

One of the currently active projects is Game Maker Money System run by GMC troll Caniac.

This project already shows huge promise – as seen from their website. A huge white gap on the top, Times New Roman as the font…

Let’s make our very own account. A basic registration form… so I click the username field, and I accidentally hit the enter button. Expecting to see some kind of validation error (“your username is missing”, “your password is missing”…), I wait for the form to submit… but what do I see?

Warning: mail() [function.mail]: SMTP server response: 503 Bad sequence of commands. You must specify the recipients of a message before you can send it in C:\AppServ\www\gmms\register2.php on line 60
Your user account has been created!
Please check you mail for a e-mail’s.

I’m not sure about you, but I don’t know if I’d trust my money in a service that has a horrible web site, a registration form that lacks any kind of basic form validation and tells the user to check “you mail for a e-mail’s”.

So let’s log in to our newly created account with no username, password, or e-mail, or any user information at all! We hit the login page, see two blank fields for the username and password and hit “log in”.

Sorry, this account has not been e-mail verifyed.

Aww, our account with no e-mail has not been e-mail “verifyed”. But what if we make a real account with real info?

So I enter an username of my choice with a one-letter password. The result?

Your user account has been created!
Please check you mail for a e-mail’s.

I’m glad a service that handles real-life money worries for the security of their users. Anyways, time to check my mail for a e-mail’s!

Your e-mail as recently used to register a account at GM-MS.com,
If you did register please copy and paste this link into you browser this link: http://gapto.co.uk/gmms/verify.php?id=(removed)
If you didn’t ignore this e-mail
Thanks,
Gm-ms Staff.

Ok…

404 – Page not found

Sorry, the page you were looking for was not found.

Well, I guess that’s where our trip with the fantastic Game Maker Money System ends. It was a fun ride!

At the time of publishing this post, their website has been having technical difficulties for many days now: for example, the registration form results in the following error:

Warning: mysql_connect() [function.mysql-connect]: Access denied for user ‘root’@'localhost’ (using password: YES) in /home/gapto/public_html/gmms/register2.php on line 6
Could not connect to mysql because Access denied for user ‘root’@'localhost’ (using password: YES)

Promising, no? In fact, this post was written a week ago – but we decided to wait until today to publish it because GMMS was supposed to “launch” on December 1. I guess it didn’t.

ProdigyGM have returned with a new Game Maker Magazine. After their unsuccessful attempt with the unfortunately titled gNAZIne last year which managed just two issues.

“We are not politically correct at all. We give out intense news, previews, and reviews.”

The front page of this new publication is already impressive, containing tiny screenshots, (almost) unreadable text that says “Tutorials, Previews, Reviews, Exclusive Interviews”, and a logo that doesn’t fit at all. Don’t want to download the magazine? Here’s a screenshot:

Next, we have a table of contents:

Letter to the public – p.2
Interview with 2dcube- p.3
Flamewar -p.4
Toonimator Preview – p.4
YoYoGames Update – p.7
GML Coding Errors – p.7
Local News PGM -p. 8
MMO Time – p.9
Wubly Review – p.10
GML Coding Errors Answers- p.12
Mr Noob The Comic – p.12
Adbarlian Castles EXCLUSIVE PREVIEW – p.13
Interview with Desanduin- p.15
East Scripts p. 16
Closing Statement -p.17

What I’m looking forwards to? The “interview”, “Local News PGM”, “Mr. Noob The Comic”, and an exclusive interview with “Adbarlian Castles”. Wait, doesn’t that sound familiar? Oh, yeah, it’s a game by the magazine’s creator!

After this, a small letter to the public:

We are pleased to bring you one of the best Game Maker Magazines out there. I do have a history with making Game maker magazines. My 1st Game Maker Magazine was called the Gnazine. The Gnazine failed because of lack of coordination. I have made all the necessary improvements to this magazine so that the professionalism is shown. I have a real team who is helping in the production of this glorious magazine. With hard work and teamwork this magazine shall not be departed, forsaken, or irrationally created. I ask that if anyone would like to join our magazine team please email me at: hardcoregamer24@yahoo.com. We are accepting new writers, interviewers, artist, jokers, and experts. Anyone is accepted here. This is a community project, so let us all participate!

Maximum professionalism has already been shown, Nate, don’t worry!

Next up? Interview with 2DCube… usual boring interview stuff. But then:

Flame War

Yes the most cyber war is being unleashed once again! Today’s victim is going to be “GM Weekly”. GM weekly has gone Bi-Weekly! The writers seem to have become lazy. We have no idea whether or not if the magazine will continue to be known as GM Weekly.

I am just kidding. GM Weekly is a great magazine. It is impressive that it can release an issue so often. I recommend GM Weekly to anyone. Do not despair about unmatched release dates.

…Wait, what? Next up, random app, some GML puzzles… Local News PGM:

ProdigyGM is going under construction. The site has acquired new domain names. The webmasters plan to link together all of the websites for a full community. Also Adbarlian Castles is getting a major upgrade. The game will have features never before seen in any indie, commercial, or GM Game. Hardcoregamer/Nateistoraw intends to release THE REAL DEMO of Adbarlian Castles soon. Also the time period for the game is now 2100, but Adbarlian is not on planet earth, so expect to see a crazy world.

I have to admit that Nate has me confused here… The ProdigyGM website is talking about a game called “Adbarlian County”… so what’s Adbarlian Castles?

Next up… article on GM MMO’s. Here’s some interesting highlights:

The games posted on the GMC are MOs (Multilayer Online).

The 39dll and Sock dll typically are the dlls used in online game creation.

And then there’s a review of “Wubly” by 2DCube:

…Wubly is not even a chick! According to the game, Wubly is asexual, and pink. Asexual is usually used for plants and fungi…

…The game_end() function is kinda, inappropriate, because when you close the game, you see the game’s size decrease, until it closes, but who asked for that animation? …

…Wubly has a brother, NOT REALLY ACCORDING TO
THE STORY…

…I recommend this game to anyone who wants to have a ball, oooops, Wubly…

Genius. Next up, solutions to their GML puzzles and their comic:

We can’t wait to see what happens (on page 17). But first, exclusive preview: Adbarlian Castles!

Adbarlian Castles (RPG) is one of GM’s Most innovative 3d games. The game allows you to take the role of a wizard/magician. It is well known that the game was supposed to be a mmorpg; however, the People at ProdigyGM had a different style of humor. They allowed NPC to behave as if they were real life PLAYERS!

As you can see, the Prodigy Game Magazine presents unbiased opinions and exclusive insights on game development.

The NPCs respond to many KEYWORDS, including, yes I said it, profane phrases!

Oh dear.

The enemy models and scenery is [sic] simply genius. The camera is also wonderful.

So when do you mention that this is your game?

Well, some random interview, GML script… and closing words:

Thank you for reading the PGM Magazine. We expect to make this a monthly magazine. We can meet our deadlines only with your help. Free Advertising is available! You can become a writer
also! Got content! Send us anything that is valuable via email at:
hardcoregamer24@yahoo.com. The PGM Magazine releases this magazine ‘As Is”. All products mentioned are the responsibility of the owners/ creators. Once again thank you for your support.

Thank you for your support. No problem!

That sure was an interesting read… but wait, there’s more… let’s not forget “Mr. Noob – The Comic”, and its thrilling conclusion:

Well, that sure made my day.

The recently launched GameMaker Scope Magazine (previously GameMaker Magazine) has been getting more professional issue by issue. But their new “hiring” post in the GMC indicates otherwise.

The post lists positions available as usual, with an application template, with some odd bits, such as “1. All conversations and organizing will be done over the forums and if applicable, MSN/Yahoo IM.”. Nothing much here, until we hit their “news update”:

In most recent events of GMS, 3 GameMaker Scope Magazine staff members have now been layed [sic] off, cut, sacked, fired, No matter what you want to call it, they have been removed from the GameMaker Scope Magazine team. These members include:
Broxter: The now-former editor. Some may be shocked by this, others may have expected it. The truth is, he did much work on issue3-4, two issues; then he somewhat slipped up, and this is where he started working on his YYG’s #3 composition entry. This would be fine, if he had of submitted more work to me, I mean, one piece of work is hardly enough. Then Broxter started with this thing where he was talking about other staff members behind their backs, insulting myself, in some sick ways and also saying that he is going to come and take my Girlfriend away and have [...Not too sure if I am actually aloud to say this on this forum, but if I'm not, please blank that word out Mod's ...] Sex with her. I really could not care less if it was a joke; it very much insulted and offended me.
Then, he has really started to get into these rage-type e-mails, where he seems very angry, also not completing work by the set date. So, he is now gone from the team.

And this continues with 2 other staff members being “layed” off. I think that NPT’s (also, thanks to him for sending me a PM about this in the first place) reply to this post sums this up more nicely than I could:

Do you honestly think you are going to get anybody to contribute to your magazine, knowing that if things don’t work out, you’re going to publicly smear them. You have absolutely no class.

You should probably add another important qualification to people consider helping you:

Must be willing to cater to the whim of an adolescent control freak.

I took my daily visit to the GMC today to find a new PM in my PM box. It was yet again a mass PM to get people to join another ‘co.nr’ based site. The PM stated:

“Excuse me,
If you have a team assembled please upload your games past, present, and future games at http://retrogaming.co.nr/ and maybe sign up for one of our quarterly competitions, this is a new site so please be one of the first members!
- Rich Y. / Zarzx”

So I replied with a common message I send to PM spammers that stated.

“Maybe you should make a topic rather than PM spam which I may add make you look like a noob. Which is also why I won’t even bother to click the link you just sent me.
-Danny”

Instantly I received a PM stating:

“go **** your kitten”
