Starting today, Game Maker TV (GMTV) will be joining the GMking network of sites and services. The name “GMTV” will be kept, and Dan “Danny” Eggers will continue to act as the Executive Editor of the popular Game Maker video podcast.

As part of the agreement, GMking will provide resources and services to GMTV necessary to continue and improve upon their core goal: providing high quality, information-rich, audio-visual media to the Game Maker community. Additionally, some of the writers from the popular MarkUp Magazine, also produced by GMking, will be assisting in the writing and production of future GMTV episodes.

GMTV will complement and expand GMking’s services to the Game Maker community as well, making this a relationship that is truly beneficial to both sides.

Robin Monks, who represented GMking for the negotiations for this merger stated, “I think this will benefit the entire Game Maker community. By uniting forces, the newly expanded GMking Network will be able to produce even more content tailored to the Game Maker community.”

GMking is a thriving community of volunteers who produce content for indie game developers and users. GMking has served the game development community since 2004; and continues to produce relevant, quality material to educate and inform.

GMTV is a fast moving and informative Game Maker video podcast with a focus on producing quality content for users of the popular Game Maker game creation platform.

Featuring news, reviews and more, this is the most professional episode to date.

The show features a completely new look (to go with their new website), which is a huge improvement from the previous one. They have ditched their “retro style”. This time in reviews, Ancient War and Beneton Movie GIF.

But that’s not all: it features a new face-off feature. Basically, two games are picked, and 5 different features of them are compared: Graphics, Replay Value, Originality, Sound/Music & Game Features. This time, Ad Nauseaum 2 and Return to Sector 9. For every category, a star is awarded for one game, and the one with the most at the end wins.

There was also a bit showing off a typewriter script, much like the Weekend Extras (getting more of those would be nice, as long as there’s real content).

In overall, a very nice episode, worth a watch. (Somewhere around 4 out of 5 stars). But to the obligatory technical comment, I’m amazed how a 320×240 WMV (“high quality”) takes 217 megabytes of space.

“We have decided to release the website earlier then episode 4 because we are having some more delays, and we thought you would like to know what’s going on and of course see the brand new site“

At least they have finally released something! Along with the new website, they have also updated the look of the forum to a more welcoming design. Even though it does still remain very empty.

The latest news on Ep. 4 is ‘Danny’s external hard drive has failed and he is working hard to recover the video.’

I personally would have preferred to see a new episode rather than them spending time on a new website and ‘administration panel’.

Lets hope the Episode Four isn’t far behind and that it gets even more hits than Episode Three.

Well many people could just be right after the lost of Co-Owner Brad (who also writes here) and musician Sebastian.

Dan announced that Gamemaker TV is on hold and also assured us that an ‘episode will be released I just don’t know when’. If I was the owner and I had no idea when the next episode of my show was going to be released, I will be a little worried. His full announcement read…

As of today three Gamemaker TV staff members quit. Haro the graphics artist had quit over some words I said. Sebastain has quit because of unknown reason. My personal saddest loss is Brad Gamemaker TV’s co-owner all that remains is Me and Tyler. Tyler is doing a tutorial for the episodes from now on (he may quit as well). I am very sad and angry about this, but assure you episode will be released I just don’t know when.

Although Dan claims he doesn’t know why Sebastian had left, Sebastian made a reply that seemed to be filled with anger towards his ‘ex-boss’…

You didnt appriecate the effort i put into making the music. I spent hours on end creating music for this, then you would say “GET RID OF THIS” or “I DONT LIKE THAT” And i would like to see you create some music. And also Brad dared me to quit.

The big questions is; Does anyone care that another episode may not be released?

…by everybody’s favorite [sic] writer. I have to say, to begin this with, the third episode greatly increased the quality of GMTV compared to the past two episodes. I won’t be jumping into the technical aspects until the end — I’ll focus on the content.

The main content in this episode is reviewing the 10 “best games” for YoYo Games’ winter competition. The review system seems to have changed according to the criticism received.

During the reviews, the sound mixing often got a bit poor, making the narrator hard to hear [times slid to the technical side: 1].

The reviews did get a bit boring to watch: I’d liken if there would have been other content in the middle of the reviews. Oh well.

And I realized something that still hasn’t been fixed. Here we go:

“Are you after exclusives, Game Reviews, Devloment [sic] Articles and Free Sound Resources? Not to mention interesting interviews, then look no further, because Game Maker Technology has all that, plus…”

Eh. In any case, the reviews did not seem flawed any more: GMTV “balanced” the review process well. Graphics, gameplay and sound are all addressed: there’s also a review of how well it fits into the “winter competition” theme.

Something that disturbed me while Danny was on screen how he looked like he was looking at something above the camera. Oh well.

As for the interview with Bendodge, <strike>nice lava lamp. I’ve always wanted one, but I realized I’d just manage to break it in one way or another</strike> it’s at the end of the episode. Featuring basically questions about Scorptek (I like to call it “Parkedtek.net”), what he does in the community and then some filler questions and a small joke. Not too interesting.

That sums up this month’s episode. Reviews and an interview. While the content was decent, I would have liked to see much more than just reviews. How about tutorials? “Video editorials” or something similar? Three stars (out of five).

…technical side: I don’t know why they call the “high quality” video “high quality” when you can barely see most of the text onscreen due to compression artifacts. Not only that, it somehow looks to me like the video source material has already been horribly compressed. 0 points, guys! And the volume issue, too.

And a small ending note. If you post a comment that basically sums up the words “f**k”, “you” and “tuntis” (that’s not a word though), it will be deleted. (Just in case, seeing from what you guys have done to some other posts of mine!)
