Annoying trait 2: Bump Bump Bump Bumping your post every three minutes

This week’s review

A quick look back at what has become of issues mentioned during the previous week on gamemaker blog. My first article has been included in the next issue of MarkUp gamemaker magazine, I’ve seen it in the final draft copy.  The magazine will be released at the begining of May.  And more of my content may be included in future issues of MarkUp. The article about clone gamemaker forums has been popular and has sparked Read more…

sPaM (PM spam)

On Saturday morning I received my first unsolicited Personal Message at the GMC. It was from FullForceGames and was an attempt to get me to join their gamemaker team (I think), unless it was some crafty way to try and increase traffic to their website. Here is the PM in full: Hi, we are starting a new website that will have a large collection of free downloadable games for everyone to download, we are making Read more…

YouTube gamemaker game trailer

I was pleasantly surprised and impressed to see that GMC member Dinsdale has made use of YouTube to deliver a trailer for his Lander Remix game. The 1 minuite trailer has been viewed around 20 times, and shows a useful and modern promotional technique that can be used to promote games. Going back a few years to when I was using gamemaker the first time these forums were there, and today on the official gamemaker forums there were at least 3 posts advertising ‘clone’ gamemaker forums. Some Read more…

Fact: Most gamemaker magazines fail

Continuing my search for gamemaker magazines I came across a site called omgili, which seems to steal, *cough*, I mean archive, the content of a number of forums. The topic, of which the GMC original appears to have been deleted, starts when a member introduces his proposals for a magazine devoted to gamemaker, only to have his ideas ripped apart by forum members. One response I was particularly interested in way was the final one Read more…

New GMers jumping in at the deep end

One of the first rules of game creation is don’t be too ambitious, especially when you are working on your first game. My first gamemaker game was a space-invaders inspired game of around 1MB in size, which was created at least 4 years ago, possibly more. The download link doesn’t work anymore as I haven’t been maintaining the website that the game is on for a good few years. Some people however are undeterred and Read more…
