Overbyte Magazine Issue 3

Overbyte, the independent games magazine your mother would be ashamed of, has released its third, less silly, issue.

In the main articles Jack Brockley takes a look at eight of the entries in YoYo Games’ fifth competition while Andrew McCluskey delivers some design tips you can use to give your game a more professional appearance.

A huge bundle of reviews are included in this issue: Grid Defender 2, Paper Dreams, Super Space Rogues, the new sport puzzle that’s sweeping the globe – Extreme Gardening, BoxyCraft, Remaddening (aka madnessMADNESSmadness 2) and A Starspangled Zephyr.

There is also a round up of recent news, an interview with Liam Barden containing all the questions you wanted to know (and some trivial ones!) and a comic by Rebecca Clare Smith.

The photo at the end is of NAL’s favourite game maker.

Previous Issues: Overbyte 1 (Feb), Overbyte 2 (March).

  1. Thanks a lot for putting Ruined as a part of the 10 entries outside of the top 8. It means a lot.

Also, the magazine itself was very good. I liked the past 2 issues, and this one was by leaps and bounds better.

  2. Apart from from some hypocritical paragraphs, the magazine was alright.

  3. Thank you very kindly for the Ultrageist mention, Jack. It’s such an odd, deliberately frustrating game that while I don’t think it’s going to do very well, I am pleasantly surprised by the number of people who’ve responded well to it.

    Thanks again.

    • No problem, Tom :). I feel the same; I don’t think YYG will enjoy it but I know you put a lot of effort into it and although I’m crap at bullet-hells, I thought this was one of the more fun ones.

  4. Best game maker magazine I’ve seen in a long time. I love some of the silliness as Phil would put it. Excellent layout, great articles, awesome interview (randomness keeps the interview fresh & interesting), very nice use of the theme & best of all, the comic was actually funny.

You should all be very proud!
