GMIndie Magazine Issue 4

There are less than two pages of content in issue 4 of GMIndie Magazine which was released last night. View issue (pdf)

It isn’t as good as last weeks.  There are two short game reviews and an interview with Benjamin (whoever he is) in which absolutely nothing of any interest is revealed.  The magazine then asks “If you could be any celebrity for 1 day, who would it be?”.

What do you think?

  1. @RIP I never got the point of game maker magazines. We can find game maker news on Game Maker Blog and get reviews on YoYo Games. O_O

  2. It really wasn’t that bad for the first 2 pages…but the interview was terrible, the reviews were undetailed and uninspiring. The title wasn’t that bad, but it wasn’t great. At least there are capitals and basic grammar…Ok, I’m lost for positives.

  3. He put [sic] in there because he knows “how to have proper English”..

As for the mag. GM community REALLY takes the mags way too seriously. But then again, what else can you expect from the community made up primarily of 13 yr olds? Seriously, get over it. It’s a free mag on a software that is barely updated, read it and move on.

  4. Andrew McCluskey :“What have you learned [sic] in Game Maker so far?” “i think ive learned gml more than anything else”
Seriously? That alone makes me want to take back anything positive I’ve said about this magazine. The worst issue so far — not enough content, and the content’s not good enough. Two reviews of games, both of which got 4.8/5 (not to put down Scattle but MN.PAR. was a very short game, and you think it’s worth a near-perfect score?). The reviews were short to — akin to a long comment on YoYo Games.
The interview was a joke, through and through. It was short. It was on someone I’d not heard of until GMLive but then that gave me the impression he was about 12. He seems to have no idea how to have proper English. Similarly, they seem to have no idea how to correct all his childish errors. And he was hardly a candidate for interviewal anyway. A Game Maker magazine featuring an interview with someone that doesn’t make games. Though I will admit — finding out he’d learnt GML having used GM for eight years was a surprising twist. [/massive sarcasm]
Poor show in every respect. The cover even looked pathetic — a poorly made load of 3D stars coming from random places with an Impact title badly slapped over. They need to come up with one consistent style for the magazine, sort out the content, and in general hold my interest like GMWeekly managed to back in late 2008.

Did you put [sic] in there or did the magazine? Because I don’t see any reason why it’s there.

  6. Poor MS Publisher job. Shouldn’t publish if there is nothing to say. I would not have accredited this with news status. Considering the interviewee’s quality of language, that was not even corrected (e.g. use of lower case gml, no apostrophes, all lower case, no full sentences).

    Reputation certainly lessened.
