Rekame Mag – Issue 3, Autumn 2010

Rekame Mag 3 CoverAndrew McCluskey has released the third issue of Rekame Mag. The issue is the first since June and the first to be published whilst Andrew has been working at YoYo Games.

Much of the content was discussed in GMTalk 4 as was the reason for the long gap between issues.

Content:

  • Quick write-ups on 30 games entered into the sixth YoYo Games competition which Andrew enjoyed. All three of the prize-winning games were included in the list with two of Andrew’s top three picks also receiving accolades from YoYo Games. This issue was delayed until the results were announced since he was a judge.
  • The Power of 2 – How making a sequel to your game could be a good move
  • Your game is like a drug – Making your games as addictive as possible
  • Ted Lauterbach (rotten_tater) interview
  • Reviews of Cool Dog, Virus, Katamari Kazoku and Tower 3 (GMB review, whoops on the duplication front!)

Another well-done issue.  More please!

  1. TV has a good point with the length and organization of the articles; though it is well done. And thanks a lot for this link! I should thank the author too… one of the reviewed games used my example: http://www.yoyogames.com/games/74295-psb-physics-open-source
    (in the game VIRUS)
And they didn’t credit me! 🙁 Or themselves, so I’m not angry, I’ll just give them a reminder and think about fixing my physics bugs heh..

  2. It was another nice issue. One thing I found myself not reading was the lengthy articles. It’s probably just because I’m tired and couldn’t be bothered, but it led to me thinking that if the article was “10 Ways to Make Your Game Addictive” split into dot points, I would have read it. So, I’m saying is the magazine would benefit from being more consumable.

Anyway, was good. I’m glad there is at least one GM magazine I look forward to.
