Kwiklook Magazine discontinued

Darren Poole’s Kwiklook magazine has been discontinued after 2 issues. He hints that he might turn the magazine into a blog: Okay. I’m sorry, but due to my recent laziness, I’ve decided to discontinue KwikLook. Once again, I have failed to keep a magazine running. I guess I was just asking too much of myself… I’m very ashamed of my inability, but I suppose I shouldn’t be so serious about this. I mean, it was Read more…

The 4 GameMaker magazines

Recently we have seen new releases from the three of the magazines devoted to the GameMaker platform. GameMakerTech and MarkUp are the publications that have released the most issues to date with 13 and 14 magazines respectively. New this year are two magazines – out with the lack of originality and in with a brand of mouthwash made by Procter & Gamble for Matthew Haigh’s magazine with 5 issues out since February. Appearing in August Read more…

Game Maker Magazines

In the past few months we have seen the launch of a couple of new GameMaker magazines. First there was Mattthew_H’s Game Maker Magazine which released its first issue in mid-February and its second in mid-March. At the end of March we then saw the first issue of GMFetch magazine emerge with just four pages of content. I will take this opportunity to collate information about all of the recent Game Maker magazines. I will Read more…

Game Maker Magazine

Another new Game Maker Magazine has been launched. Yep that’s its name “Game Maker Magazine”. (gmc link) Whilst GameMakerTech have to hold a caption competition to come up with a snappy slogan Game Maker Magazine has one from the start: “The Information you need to know, today“. Almost as good as the magazine name I’m sure you agree. It’s isn’t as bad as gnazine [1] [2], but telling people that they need Adobe Reader in Read more…

January Magazines (MarkUp 11, GMTech 10)

January is quite an interesting time of the year to look at the magazines. Both because of the possibility of the magazines introducing new features and changes, and because over the Christmas period there could have been either a torrent or lack of submissions depending on the particular contributers. Download MarkUp Issue 11 | Download GMTech Issue 10 I’ll start with MarkUp as this was, as usual, the first to be released. Issue 11s was Read more…

December Magazine Releases

Download GMTech Issue 9 Download MarkUp Issue 10 (December) The past few days have seen both Game Maker magazines releasing their latest issues, one considerably more seasonal than the other. MarkUp have switched to a two column layout, which I think is a big improvement over the previously favoured three-column option. But that isn’t the only presentational change, the whole magazine looks considerably ‘cleaner’ and less cluttered than it has been in previous months. GMTech Read more…

Why can’t we have a good magazine?

Last month for the first time I believe that the GameMakerTech magazine outshone its generally more respected rival publication MarkUp. The quality of the content in GMT has been improving issue by issue at a steady rate but it still lacks a regular release date. That said the November Issue of MarkUp was released behind schedule and December issue looks like it is heading for a mid-month release. Why oh why can neither side produce Read more…

New “Game Development” magazine

Oh yes, you read that right. “Gnazine, A Game Development Magazine” which according to its creator is “no where as good as gm-tech or gmking, however it does have some themes to it”. The first article of the first (and I am 90% certain only) issue is…. something about the film Beowulf, which not related to Game Maker in anyway whatsoever. Oh dear. Let the flaming begin.
