GameMaker Magazine: MarkUp Issue 5

Ahoy there!

After a couple of days delay the fifth issue of MarkUp, the only GameMaker magazine to be endorsed by YoYoGames, has been released.

No doubt you’ll have already seen it on the GMC, Grego’s blog or elsewhere so I won’t copy and paste the contents list as a space-filler.

You should read it – this time the magazine has hit 29 pages and includes 3 pages of content by no other than moi. I also notice that over time I seem to be gradually increasing my position in the list of contributers to the magazine – this week taking fourth place behind Jason from GameMakerResource who sends a lot of traffic my way.

One thing that did mystify me was to find that the reviews section was split around an interview and several tutorials. I know the second set of reviews was added much nearer to release, but I had assumed they would be put with the others.

Fussy I know but I think it would have been better if the Seiklus and Arena reviews (both with two pages of content) were displayed next to each other as a double spread rather than being split over two ‘double pages’. Still I guess most people will just view one page at at time, but some of us have widescreens.

I see an improved cover as the copyright bumpf (not a real word) has been moved elsewhere in the magazine as I suggested. GameMakerBlog also gets a quick thank you at the back, along with some of the other people who have made MarkUp possible.

Come on, we need you – write an article or review from MarkUp 6, due out next month.

What do you think?

  1. I haven’t check back here for a while lol.

But hey, yeah my article was on Page 3. I was like Wha?

This little magazine just keeps getting better though!

  2. To be fair I had already seen the list on the GMKing forum, on the GMC, on the MarkUp website and in an e-mail from MarkUp.

  3. “so I won’t copy and paste the contents list as a space-filler.”

That sounds so mean towards me xD Though I guess I deserve it 🙂

  4. 😛

Thanks for the post, Phil. About having reviews on seperate pages — we never even planned to keep similar articles together in the first place 😀 .. But I guess this is a good idea that could be easily incorporated to issue 6.
