Future YoYo Games face-to-face meetings

on June 28, 2010 - 2588 Views

A glog entry earlier today by YoYo Games has highlighted a desire of the staff to hold a number of face-to-face meetings with regular Game Maker users to discuss improvements, desires etc. A poll included asks people to mention where they live (the basing of YYG in Scotland means most of the options are for particular Scottish cities, then other countries in the UK and finally “outside UK” are options). Currently nearly three quarters of voters are outside UK, with under 8% in total being from Scotland.

Although a detracting factor is that a GMC member residence graph by James Rhodes (which now, for most, just produces a grey box) produced very few Scottish results, a positive consideration is that a lot of commenters on the entry that live outside Scotland (and even outside the UK) have expressed an interest in travelling for one of these meetings.

Should these plans prove a success it will be interesting to see their results.

  1. […] YoYo Games recently expressing their intention to hold face-to-face meetings with Game Maker users, do any readers know of any other local Game Maker communities which have organised get-togethers? […]

  2. Thanks for the link James, there are 167 members on the map ๐Ÿ™‚

    James, when I try submit my location I get this: Warning: mysql_connect(): Lost connection to MySQL server at ‘reading initial communication packet’, system error: 110 in /srv/www/gm-resources.com/world/index.php on line 15 Warning: mysql_select_db() expects parameter 2 to be resource, boolean given in /srv/www/gm-resources.com/world/index.php on line 16 Warning: mysql_real_escape_string(): Access denied for user ‘wwwrun’@’localhost’ (using password: NO) in /srv/www/gm-resources.com/world/index.php on line 18 Warning: mysql_real_escape_string(): A link to the server could not be established in /srv/www/gm-resources.com/world/index.php on line 18 Warning: mysql_query(): Access denied for user ‘wwwrun’@’localhost’ (using password: NO) in /srv/www/gm-resources.com/world/index.php on line 18 Warning: mysql_query(): A link to the server could not be established in /srv/www/gm-resources.com/world/index.php on line 18 Warning: mysql_num_rows() expects parameter 1 to be resource, boolean given in /srv/www/gm-resources.com/world/index.php on line 19 Warning: mysql_real_escape_string(): Access denied for user ‘wwwrun’@’localhost’ (using password: NO) in /srv/www/gm-resources.com/world/index.php on line 28 Warning: mysql_real_escape_string(): A link to the server could not be established in /srv/www/gm-resources.com/world/index.php on line 28 Warning: mysql_real_escape_string(): Access denied for user ‘wwwrun’@’localhost’ (using password: NO) in /srv/www/gm-resources.com/world/index.php on line 28 Warning: mysql_real_escape_string(): A link to the server could not be established in /srv/www/gm-resources.com/world/index.php on line 28 Warning: mysql_real_escape_string(): Access denied for user ‘wwwrun’@’localhost’ (using password: NO) in /srv/www/gm-resources.com/world/index.php on line 28 Warning: mysql_real_escape_string(): A link to the server could not be established in /srv/www/gm-resources.com/world/index.php on line 28 Warning: mysql_real_escape_string(): Access denied for user ‘wwwrun’@’localhost’ (using password: NO) in /srv/www/gm-resources.com/world/index.php on line 28 Warning: mysql_real_escape_string(): A link to the server could not be established in /srv/www/gm-resources.com/world/index.php on line 28 Warning: mysql_query(): Access denied for user ‘wwwrun’@’localhost’ (using password: NO) in /srv/www/gm-resources.com/world/index.php on line 28 Warning: mysql_query(): A link to the server could not be established in /srv/www/gm-resources.com/world/index.php on line 28 Warning: Cannot modify header information – headers already sent by (output started at /srv/www/gm-resources.com/world/index.php:15) in /srv/www/gm-resources.com/world/index.php on line 31

    Its a horrible long PHP Error for sure, I’ve never had one that big. I think its all database errors, with the extra headers sent error because of the database errors showing.. lol

      Should be fixed now. Didn’t remember to change the connect details within index.php (since it only connects when submitting details and not all the time, I didn’t realise it was broken there). In any case, I shouldn’t really be modifying it since xot owns it now… but I’m sure he won’t mind ;P

    • xot says:

      @James,
      No indeed, thanks for fixing that.

  4. James Rhodes says:

    The world map is back up again (I forgot to change the MySQL details when I switched to Linode). If you want the raw location data for GMC members, you can find it at http://www.gm-resources.com/world/fetch.php (but remember that the only information that’s available is longitude and latitude, and even then those are rough estimations).

    • James Rhodes says:

      @Andrew McCluskey:

      Sounds like you’re having trouble accessing Google Maps – I certainly don’t provide the map data. Check to make sure you can access http://maps.google.com/..

      In any case, I can’t really do anything. It’s showing the map data fine for me.

    • James Rhodes says:

      Odd, but I’m not going to look into it. As I said below, I sold the site to xot so I don’t want to go changing things around – I’m just hosting it.

    • The dots representing members are now present again, but I still only see a grey area where the map should be. To date the only place I’ve ever seen it properly displayed is at my old high school.

    • I can access Google Maps, and Google Maps on any other site in which it’s embedded, absolutely fine. It’s only ever been this that’s flagged up the problem.

    • I had the same problem, then realised it was zoomed in too far. I zoomed out and bingo. Try that if you haven’t already, Andrew. ๐Ÿ™‚

  5. James did once post me a URL which enabled access to the raw data that was used to produce the map but despite searching through my chat history I can’t find it ๐Ÿ™
