5 GM Games That Would be Awesome on the PSP

5 Games

Recently there has been a lot of talk about game maker games on mobile devices, the first being the Play Station Portable.  After listening to the GMIndie Podcast that included a lot of talk about game maker being on the PSP I wondered what kind of popular game maker games would be fun to play on it.  Not including the recently submitted games for the Yoyo Games  competition 05 I have compiled a list of 5 game maker games that I would like to see/play on the PSP (in no particular order).

1. An Untitled Story by Matt Thorson

An Untitled Story is an incredibly well done platform game created by Matt Thorson.  You start off as an egg in a nest and venture off into a huge world full of scenery and objects.  The game was originally commercial but eventually Matt made it free for everyone to enjoy.  It is also perfect for the PSP because it was built with game-pad controls in mind.  The rooms are all linked together so it would be easy to adjust the view to fit on the PSP’s screen.

Overall An Untitled Story is a fun game that will keep you busy for a while, and would be awesome to play on the go.

2. Iji by Daniel Remar

Iji is also a story platform game.  You play as Iji, a girl who just woke up as a cyborg and needs to save the world from Alien invaders.  The game is incredibly well done and Daniel (the creator) spent 5 years developing the game.  The basic controls make it perfect for the PSP and the quality of the game is definitely enough to get people to pay for it.  Although Daniel said that he doesn’t plan to put it on a PSP with the future Game Maker it would be easy for him to port it.  One problem would be the views on the PSP since the screen/resolution is smaller, but it could be fixed.

3. Focus by Jesse Venbrux

Focus is a platform game in which your main defense is teleporting to avoid missiles.  The game also has simple controls which are key for porting to the PSP.  The graphics though simple are very fitting and would look nice on a small screen.  Again, the only problem is that this game has single room levels which require you to see the entire room while playing and would be hard to work with on a smaller screen.  Although I wouldn’t pay for this game, it’s still a fun game to play when you’re bored.

4. Paper Dreams by Zack Banack

Paper Dreams is a hand drawn arcade game created by Zack Banack.  I personally love most of his games and they are really fun to play when you’re bored.  Paper Dreams has simple controls (left, right and shoot!) to play, and is a really fun arcade game.  Unfortunately the game doesn’t really keep you occupied for long periods of time but it is a great little game to pick up and play on the go when you have a few free minutes (perhaps between classes?) on your hands.

5. madnessMADNESSmadness by Andrew McCluskey

Also with simple controls, madnessMADNESSmadness by Andrew McCluskey is also one of those on-the-go games that you play when your bored.  It is an arcade game where you must avoid spikes, pits, and getting hit by the red wall of doom (I don’t know the real name of it but that’s what I call it).  It would also look pretty cool and easy to play on a small screen and the online high scores are sure to keep you going for a while.

So there you have it, 5 games.  I’m sure there are more games that would definitely be worth playing on the PSP but these are 5 that came to my mind.  Also, with the competition 05 based on games playable on a mobile device there will be a whole bunch more games to look out for in the near future!

What do you think?

  1. Nice list. Even though I don’t have a PSP, I’m excited to see how this GM PSP stuff works out. I probably won’t be playing the games, but I just like seeing GM expand into other frontiers.
