indie(Magazine) Issue 10 – “Hiatus”

Indie Magazine Issue 10The tenth issue of indie(Magazine) has today been released.  This means the magazine has now released the same number of issues as Game Maker’s Digest.

The magazine starts with a three page round up of indie gaming news before 3 GameMaker games are reviewed. The games are Helicopter Hero in which you fly around a city killing terrorists on top of tower blocks, the tile-placing puzzler Blocchi and Vlambeer’s Super Crate Box (our own review here).

I had assumed that “Greg Lobanov Speaks – The legend pours his heart out” inferred that there would be an interview with the developer banov inside, however this failed to materialise. Instead “Banov Speaks” was a screenshot of an ironic review Greg had written at YoYoGames.

The third instalment of Erik Paldanius Online Game Development in Game Maker tutorial is followed by the first part of an introduction to Java which starts by recommending using MS Notepad and the command line interface instead of an IDE.

The Tweets of the Week page is in there as is a promise of future details for an upcoming indie(Function)/GameJolt competition.

Editor Bret Hudson opens the magazine with the famous words “we might take a short hiatus later this month”. “If we disappear, don’t worry! We’re just gathering content so we can become stronger than ever.” Perhaps we’ll see RekameMag 4 in this gap.

  1. Chances are we won’t be on Hiatus, but it may happen since school is starting up. We’re rushed every week and a 2-3 week hiatus would allow us to gather tons of content so we have something to fall back on if we fail to write enough content that week.
