  • Many of the bugs reported so far by testers of the Game Maker for Mac release candidate have already been resolved. It’s nice to see these are actively being worked on as previously reported bugs in Game Maker and on the YoYo Games site have often not been fixed for long periods of time if they were fixed at all.
  • David Galindo has released his latest commercial Game Maker game, oil blue [YYG demo]. The game consists of a number of different challenges which must be completed as part of the day-to-day operations of an oil drilling company.  IndieGames posted a preview a week and a half ago.  No word yet on whether top-killing or top-hats are options.
  • Nikc Nack magazine has released its third issue (left click only).  The design still needs work as it feels everything has just been cobbled together at the last minute and the twelfth page of the magazine, actually labelled as page 8, contains word art.  The magazine still needs a lot of work and I question the relevance of some of the content.

What do you think?

  1. The Oil Blue is awesome, addictive, but can’t really be explained. Just make sure you play it, and then see if you still have any doubts 😉

  2. Graphically, Oil Blue looks pretty neat. After watching some of the videos, and reading some of the comments on Indie Games, I have to say that it really doesn’t look all that fun to me. It kind of reminds me of that “hacking” game in BioShock, only that’s all there is.

    • I think you have to give equal praise to its sound design and overall presentation, it’s quite lovely, but I too worry about the game play. David’s game Kablooey! really rubbed me the wrong way with its inflexible timed game play, and this looks like it requires more of the same race against the clock mind set. I felt there were some fundamental flaws with Kablooey! that hurt it more, and they probably aren’t in this game, so I’m looking forward to giving it a go. I’d take any comments from Indie Games with a bucket of salt.
