Caveman Craig 2, YYG Contests, GMC Contest, Buy our Internet service!

A brief look at some of the other stories from this week:

  • A sequel to the popular Caveman Craig game is in development.
  • There were over 225 entries in YoYo Games’ “Save the Planet” competition which bizarrely YYG continue to plug on their homepage.  Sandy has said that he is “trying to do something a bit different” for the next contest.
  • There is an ‘informal contest‘ for Simulation & Sports games at the GMC organised by administrator Chronic.  The deadline is a month, after which the winner will be decided by a member poll.
  • I can confirm that GMB will not try to sell you internet access, phone services or anything of the sort.  This is after all a blog about GameMaker.

What do you think?

  1. @ Caniac: But you suck up to them all the time anyway!
I mean, look at your posts for example. I understand that you may have taken it offensively, but honestly, it was a joke.

  2. @Caniac There is nothing wrong with Scorptek launching a DSL service. But this is entirely unrelated from Game Maker, thus I do not see why they decide to post about it on a blog entitled “GMNews”. One post would be fair, but so far this month all they have written about is this.

Did the Wright Brothers try to sell planes to people who visited their bicycle show? Yes we see companies targeting their existing customers with new products, e.g. supermarkets selling insurance, credit cards etc – but they don’t stop selling food to do this.

@NakedPaulToast Something like that. You clearly spend too much time on Wikipedia 😛

@Robin Monks But did it fly? Want to test it?

@F1ak3r I am sorry. Instead I spent time researching and blogging about Game Maker. I assumed that was what people wanted 🙁

  3. Good point. I changed the about page a few months ago, it used to contain a blurb about Scorptek announcements, but I guess I forgot to put that back in after re-writing. Anyway, doesn’t matter as tuntis says we’re taking this too seriously.

I know it was meant to be a half-joke, but in some way it also feels like you’re trying to diminish our blog.

  4. Game Maker News (GMNews) is a news blog maintained by Scorptek with the intention of providing the latest headline news pertaining to indie game developers.
Specifically, GMNews focuses primarily on news related to the development of the Game Maker software (by Mark Overmars), and the online communities of amateur game and program developers who use the said software. In recent months we have also welcomed the addition of YoYo Games to our news coverage, a company which is now overseeing the development of Game Maker and ensuring growth of the indie game development market.
GMNews is not just a news site, it is also a discussion forum. We believe it is important for users to participate in discussions about various issues surrounding the game developer world and we encourage our readers to both comment on articles and submit news pieces that may interest other game developers. To submit a news piece, just send it to [email protected] and we’ll have a look at it within a 24 hour period. Note that our commenting system is open to all users, and registration is not necessary.
We like to keep a friendly atmosphere here, so please remember to observe the rules when posting comments on an article, and be respectful to other users and their opinions. We would also like to remind our readers that by participating in GMNews discussions and commenting on articles, you agree to the general Scorptek privacy policy.
If you have any further comments, questions, concerns or simply wish to contact the GMNews team, send an e-mail to [email protected].
    Thanks for your interest,
    – Scorptek

  5. Just to be clear, we have always said that GMNews is both equally a Game Maker blog and a source of Scorptek news and we have been sharing the blog for both purposes over the past two years. So I personally do not see a problem either.

  6. guys, the blog is run by Scorptek, scorptek does stuff besides GMNews. they just never made a site. I see nohting wrong if they want to try to make a DSL Service.

the Wright Brothers had a bycicle show. bikes have very little to do with Planes, but thats how they started.

  7. I don’t see anything wrong with GMNews trying to sell people internet, if they are cheaper and a good deal, I might sign up, or I might not.
