Updated 22/04/2013 – ‘Exclusive: Interview With The GameMaker Community Hacker‘ The official GameMaker Community forums (GMC) have been inaccessible over the past 48 hours, and today YoYo Games, the developers behind GameMaker: Studio, have announced that this was due to the discovery of a successful hacking attempt. Between 5000-8000 user accounts are estimated to have been compromised by a password logging script which was introduced to the core files within the GMC’s forum software, IP.Board Read more…

GameMakerTech‘s notoriously unreliable forum has finally moved hosts. Connection Problems Sorry, SMF was unable to connect to the database. This may be caused by the server being busy. Please try again later. http://www.gmtech.vlexo.net/forum/ The new forum can be found at http://www.gmtech.kwix.info/forum, all posts and user accounts have been moved over. For a magazine which is improving at such a rapid rate I am quite surprised that the forum issue wasn’t fixed sooner. Their wiki, featuring Read more…

At a risk of sounding like gmnews, Chronic has announced that member post counts will once again be implemented at the GMC (from effect immediately). Since the current IPB powered GMC came into existence in 2003 there have never been public post counts. The previous eZboard forum did have post counts but a decision was made not to continue the feature. Now after 5 years it appears there has been a change of heart, as Read more…
Broadcasting to the world a domain name you plan to register isn’t the brightest idea is it? Not so when I am king of domains starting “GameMaker…” (GameMakerBlog.com, GameMaker.tv, GameMakerStream.com, GameMakerTV.com, GameMaker.es, GameMakerNews.com, GameMaker8.com). GameMakerSchool.com has been added to my list. Some of you will probably think this was a harsh move on my half and I’ll admit I do feel a little guilty. I first considered purchasing this domain earlier in the month but Read more…

Sandy Duncan CEO of YoYo Games has admitted that their “customer support is terrible” and that “the DRM sucks”. “If it helps I think some parts of the site suck, I think, at times, that the DRM sucks and I think, always, that our customer support is terrible.I spend most of my time and energy raising finance to sort some of these issues and to create lots of eciting [sic] new things both in the Read more…
The GMC is looking distinctly green. Here is a quick comparison conducted between the ‘old’ GMC (on 16th March) and the recently updated YoYo Games styled version (today). I am unable to find the option to revert back to the old version which I remember an administrator stating would probably remain.
GameMaker Community “Reviewer’s Choice” Forum Still Redundant
September 15, 2013
In not-so-breaking news, the unpopular Reviewer’s Choice forum over at the official GameMaker Community board remains a neglected, inbred part of the community, where game reviews are written by and for the same people. Reviewer’s Choice allows game developers (namely hobbyists) to submit their GameMaker creations for review. A team of writers, made up of general forum-goers, play and review submitted games. Each game and subsequent review is given an individual thread within the forum. Read more…
