YoYo announce second competition

yyg.pngYoYo Games have announced the details of their second Game Maker competition.

Prizes still total $1750 but this time the theme is ‘Ancient Civilisation’. I guess we can expect to see lots of Egyptian pyramids then…..

‘Ancient Civilisation’ is quite vague so leaves a wide scope but I expect we will see one or two civilisations dominating the entries. There are 85 development days as of now. Looks like they’ve been listening to some of the criticism they received previously.

Hey look. With this post we could have been gmnews….

What do you think?

  1. I agree on the money wasting part. Making it annual or bi-annual is better, competitions is good, but too much competitions might not be so good.

However, the competition itself does drive a lot of profit. It causes so many people to create good games, so the YoYo Games site will have better games, so people would be more interested in visiting the YYG site for playing games [casual gamers, that is] which will all – in turn – improve the ad revenue.

The ad revenue could also be improved since many of the developers will cosntantly visit the YoYo Games site and check for their games, comments on them, and other games, this all could also increase the chance of them finding interesting ads and clicking them.

I’m not so sure, however, that – with all the revenue – whether or not they actually make profit off it.

  2. Aztec gold, lots of rain forests 🙂

Also, a play on hieroglyphs would be cool 🙂 Majong with cuneiform 🙂

  3. They should try using their money to improve GM instead of wasting it on contests (don’t get me wrong: it’s good that they run contests to keep the community together)
